i Believe Week 13 – Things I Believe About My Ethos
Series: i Believe

i-Believe-sermon-header

The word “theology” most simply means “the study of God.” Christian theology is digging into God’s Word – the Bible – to discover what He has revealed about Himself. When we do this, we come to know Him as Creator of all things, Sustainer of all things, and Judge of all things. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end of all things.  This summer we will be exploring the basic, foundational beliefs of who we are as Grace Family Church.

Today we conclude our 3-month journey through what we believe as a church family by looking at our Ethos, our ways and habits of living.  Too often, it is easy to accumulate more knowledge without being transformed by that knowledge. We look at three different times Jesus talked about what we should do differently if we are following Him.

Today we finish our journey of looking at the area of theology sometimes called Eschatology, or "Things I Believe About the End Times."  Without an over-emphasis (mania) or a fear (phobia) of this topic, we discuss a basic timeline of events for the end times, focusing mostly on the truth that God has determined the end, that Jesus will return one day, and that God is in control.

Today we continue our journey by looking at the area of theology sometimes called Hamartiology, or "Things I Believe About Sin."  We discuss the nature of sin, how it affects us and others, and from where it originates.  Succinctly put, unless we believe and teach the severity of sin, we cannot live or proclaim the gospel to be amazingly good news that it is.

Today we continue our journey by looking at the area of theology sometimes called Anthropology, or "Things I Believe About Mankind."  We discuss the glorious truth that humanity is uniquely and specially designed in the image and likeness of the Divine, that it is that image that gives us value over every other thing in all of creation and that radically impacts how we choose to act in regard to other people.

The way we conceive the FUTURE sculpts the present, giving contour and tone to nearly every action and thought through the day. If our sense of the  future is weak, we live listlessly.  This series walks us through the New Testament book of 1 Thessalonians, which shows tThe Christian faith has always been characterized by a strong and focused sense of the FUTURE, with a belief in the 2nd Coming of Jesus as a distinctive detail. From the day Jesus ascended into Heaven, all who follow Him have lived expecting His return. This letter was written, in part, so we would believe in Jesus, with COMPLETE CONFIDENCE.
