Because God's great power enables Him to accomplish His great plan, we are encouraged to embrace His great purpose behind it all.  He brings beauty out of ashes.  He sees beyond the muck & the mire of this life to the one beyond.  He invites us to join in His grand design, emboldened and energized by the reason behind all of life.  The greatest story ever told.

We discover that, because of His great power, God has and is able to accomplish at great plan.  He invites us to be a part of that plan - of His great story.  Will I step into it?

Stories define so much of who we are and what we do – we tell them to our children, to teach them how to grow up to be the women & men they should be. We tell them to our friends & family to share bits and pieces of who we are and what makes us tick. We spend our money on entertainment that (by-and-large) are comprised of stories.
What if there was one story that rose above all others? One story that was grander, richer, bigger, and more powerful than every story ever told. This Christmas, we discover not only that there IS such a story, but that we are invited to be a part of it.

Today we look at the story of God's Great Power, how His power is both magnificent & grand AND profoundly personal.  His power doesn't remove Him from us but draws us close.  And it all begins in such lowly places that we can all relate.

Stories define so much of our lives - the stories we're told, the stories we tell, the stories we live, and the stories we dream of.  Jesus knew this, and often taught those around Him using timeless stories of eternal truths.  And those truths many times flew in the face of conventional wisdom, contradicting common sense of those days and our days as well.  His truth was definitely Uncommon Sense.

It's been said that the last part of our lives that we give control over of is our finances ... and this is a subject that Jesus (and the whole Bible) talks about quite a bit.  Jesus shares some uncommon sense that, where our treasure is,  this is where our heart is.  Where is my heart then?

Often we find ourselves concerned with how we appear to others - do they think I'm successful enough, pretty enough, tall enough, strong enough, religious enough?  And on, and on.  Jesus flips this thinking on its head, and we see Him tell us that our lives are not about how great other people think we are but should rather be about how we can best tell the story of Jesus' great news with all we've got.  And it is a story that we should be dying to tell the world!

Jesus said some remarkable things.  Sometimes, they were shocking, especially to those who ascribe to a "common sense" approach to the world.  Today we look at five times when Jesus bewildered his hearers with these simple words: You have heard it said, but I say to ...

Our world pushes us to be the best, to beat everyone else, to come out on top, with others below us.  And if we can't be the best, we at least should be better than as many others as we can ... and we bite and devour and destroy each other in pursuit of this. Jesus shares a very different way for us, a very different way to be part of His family and for how we treat each other right here and now.  Take another look at the Uncommon Sense of Jesus.
