Proxy – Week 4 (SACRIFICE)
Series: Proxy
One of the questions we’re often asked as a church is what’s God’s purpose for my life?  Many others are like it … what does God want from me? Why am I here? What am I supposed to do with my life?

This life was purposed and planned before the first foundations of our universe sparked into existence. This life was designed to be one where the Divine intersects with the daily, where God Himself walks among us, talks to us, interacts with us, and loves us … and where we do the same with Him.  We’re designed to be God’s PROXY, His representation, in our everyday lives.

All of what it takes to be a good proxy for God - to represent well the One who made us - is not about reaching some pinnacle of spirituality.  We learn that to SACRIFICE for God is an authentic response of a follower of Jesus wherever she or he is in their spiritual journey ... that it all comes down to how we see Jesus.  If He is just a religious leader or a good teacher or a moral man, we'll only follow Him accordingly.  But if He is the indescribable, unmatchable, limitless, glorious Author of all Creation, then following Him and reveling in His love will invariably lead us to surrender joyfully all of who we are and what we have to serve Him with all we've got.

Today we see that if we really KNOW God and if we really  TRUST in Him to be who He says He is, that I can't help but begin to PROMOTE Him in all areas of my life, championing what is close to His heart and ordering my life around the glorious truth that the One who spoke and the universe leaped into existences loves me, values me, and pursues me - and all of us!

Just this past September, Grace Family Church celebrated 50 years of gathering together as a family in New Holland.  This half-century has been filled with memories, passion, and community.  As the New Year begins, we look back on some of what God has done in and through our church.  But we also look ahead to what He has in store for us in the days coming.

Guided by our past, but never enslaved to it, we peer eagerly into what the time ahead of us will bring.  Grace Family Church has an invaluable mission and a compelling vision for the future, and we set our eyes on how the hope, love, joy, forgiveness, and restoration that following after Jesus provides.

Stories define so much of our lives - the stories we're told, the stories we tell, the stories we live, and the stories we dream of.  Jesus knew this, and often taught those around Him using timeless stories of eternal truths.  And those truths many times flew in the face of conventional wisdom, contradicting common sense of those days and our days as well.  His truth was definitely Uncommon Sense.

It's been said that the last part of our lives that we give control over of is our finances ... and this is a subject that Jesus (and the whole Bible) talks about quite a bit.  Jesus shares some uncommon sense that, where our treasure is,  this is where our heart is.  Where is my heart then?

Our world pushes us to be the best, to beat everyone else, to come out on top, with others below us.  And if we can't be the best, we at least should be better than as many others as we can ... and we bite and devour and destroy each other in pursuit of this. Jesus shares a very different way for us, a very different way to be part of His family and for how we treat each other right here and now.  Take another look at the Uncommon Sense of Jesus.
